In the bills this morning: From Sen. Steve Faris, a $90 million appropriation (relying on federal stimulus money) for the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts in Hot Springs. THAT would be quite a repair job.
(Reader with children as ASMSA notes that school has long-standing need for more classroom space and performance space with addition of stronger arts curriculum. Also the former hospital building that has provided most space is badly in need of work, ideally replacement. This is the potential problem with stimulus money. Til now, it's been the understanding the money can't be used for new construction, though it may be used for repair. Where does that fall? I suspect Faris' legislation was written with school's overall needs in mind, but tailored so that it can be used to whatever extent possible.)
