Readers noted in last night's open the line the death of radio commentator Paul Harvey at 90.

Who, if anyone, will succeed Harvey as a familiar daily voice on the ABC Radio Network, a role in which he reached as many as 24 million listeners? Well, ABC has another folksy provider of news-and-views on board who could move into his syndication slot. If he can prove as popular with stations nationwide as Harvey, he'll become a multi-millionaire. In a feature 20 years ago, the NY Times said Harvey made $5 million a year from his ABC contract alone.

And who might that potential Harvey successor be? You know him. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. I don't think it's a stretch to say that his ability to become the next Paul Harvey will also be a factor in future national politics.

Now you know the rest of the story.

Huckabee has a tribute to Harvey on his website.

One of the greatest and most humbling experiences of my life was being asked to substitute for him last summer a couple of times.  I said then that substituting for him made me feel like a Little Leaguer filling in for Mickey Mantle.
