Former Appeals Court Judge Wendell Griffen says he's notified Arkansas Surgeon General Joe Thompson of his resignation from the policy board of the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement, which Thompson directs.
Thompson was a lead supporter for the primary seatbelt bill headed to Gov. Mike Beebe. Griffen had argued for legal guards in the law against racial profiling, a concern shared by civil libertarians but given short shrift by most bill supporters. Griffen tried unsuccessfully to get the bill amended to prevent police searches in seatbelt-only stops.
