The New York Times has settled a lawsuit by a lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, who said the Times had suggested she had an improper relationship with John McCain. No money paid. No retraction. Dueling op-eds will be published. Here's a disinterested party's account.
The Times can high-horse this in its customary fashion and claim vindication all it wants, but the majority opinion is that the Times ruined a pretty good story about McCain's coziness with lobbyists by its wink-wink insinuations about Iseman. No surprise, I don't think, that at least one notable veteran of the Clinton panty posse and Whitewater necktie party worked on this story.
Local angle: The lobbyist's lawyer, Rodney Smolla, once taught law in Arkansas.
