John Williams reports some more lowlights: The bingo deregulation bill came out of the House Rules Committee. Something curious there that he wasn't able to run down today. Some deal has been cut, perhaps for amendments in the Senate. If the bill provides complete deregulation with no tax, it's an outrage and we'll be right back where we were before voters approved charity bingo. Illegal for-profit games will operate with impunity. And there'll be no revenue for the state. And precious little for charity. Veterans groups have been turning on the pressure on this.
Also, the sop to the Religious Right otherwise known as the largely meaningless -- unless a pregnant woman is in dire straits -- "partial birth" abortion bill came out of Senate committee on a voice vote. Headed to law apparently.
