Most people in the news business hit media websites a few times a day. It’s a horror movie, best glimpsed between fingers ready to close shut at the worst carnage.

So I already knew that TV stations were feeling the pain just as much as newspapers — see KATV’s big layoffs, KTHV’s furloughs, etc. But maybe I didn’t fully appreciate the depth.

Wall Street Journal article notes declining revenue has caused cuts in staff and news program time. At Gannett, which owns 22 TV stations including KTHV, Jim Hopkins’ Gannettblog says:

Gannett has been cutting costs by eliminating pricey news anchors, hiring “one-man-band” reporter-videographers, and consolidating work such as graphics production.
