Slow day. And I've been distracted by other work as well. But how about a link to House Speaker Robbie Wills' recollection of proposing to his wife Dana -- at the Capitol:
Dana and I got engaged ten years ago this past weekend. I’ll never forget it. We hadn’t been dating that long but it was love and -as those of you so afflicted can attest - it seemed completely logical. She was expecting me to pop the question for Valentine’s Day. I decided to at least surprise her with the timing of the proposal, moving it up a week. We had been out to dinner with some friends and were driving down I-630 on a soupy, foggy night. I pulled off the freeway at the Capitol complex, walked her up to the steps of the Capitol on some lame pretext, dropped to one knee and whipped out the ring I’d bought the week before. It wasn’t much, but it was all I could afford at the time. Thankfully, she said yes. Why the Capitol? Well, we’d met during my unsuccessful first run for the Legislature. I thought it a nice touch. I know…I’m a dork.
