Caterpillar announces 20,000 job cuts on top of earlier voluntary incentives to retire. Plus, it is freezing most salaries.
No mention of impact on the new 600-employee Caterpillar motor grader plant recently announced for NLR (perhaps because it anticipates costs will be much lower here.)
UPDATE: Roby Brock reports that the NLR plant was discussed in Caterpillar's briefing today. It appears safe. It was described as important to the company's long-term strategic plans.
And I got a quick one-word response to my question to the company about any connection between layoffs and NLR plant: "No."
