Beebe declines pay boost

Dang. That noise from the public about government pay raises that I mentioned earlier -- some of KTHV's commenters took their ire out on the governor -- has not gone unnoticed.

Gov. Mike Beebe has announced he won't take the 3.8 percent pay raise the legislature has approved for executive, legislative and judicial officers (prosecutors got an additional 8 percent bump). His pay would have gone from $84,114 to $87,352. Short and sweet from Beebe's office:

LITTLE ROCK – This afternoon, Governor Beebe informed the Department of Finance and Administration that he will not accept the pay raise approved for him as part of the government appropriations bill.  As chief executive officer of the state, Beebe will forego any raise in pay while Arkansans continue to face the tough economic conditions of the national recession.

What would Mike Huckabee have done?
