A West Little Rock homeowner fired shots at intruders in his home early this morning, striking one of them, and that was just the start of it.
An LRPD report on the incident, which concluded with two arrests:
On January 22, 2009 at approximately 0237 hours, Officers received a call to Marcella Drive to a burglary in progress where shots had been fired by the homeowner. Communications then advised that the suspects were three (3) B/M’s who had shot at the homeowner and then fled in an unknown direction of travel.
While en route to the residence Officers were westbound on Chenal Parkway when they observed a tan 2005 Chevrolet Malibu (AR LPN# 422 KXA) traveling eastbound on Chenal Parkway at Rahling Road. Officers turned around, and got in behind the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle began speeding up when he observed Officers get in behind him. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued eastbound on Chenal Parkway where he turned southbound on Kanis Road and then turned on Denny Drive. While Officers were behind the vehicle, the occupants began throwing items out of the windows of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle then stopped in the 18000 block of Denny Road and fled on foot south into the woods.
Officers then arrested Ashten Keaton (B/M 08-12-90) and Lee Davis (B/M 01-13-90) who were passengers in the vehicle. Mr. Keaton was found to have a gunshot wound to his left hip and was transported to Baptist Hospital by MEMS where he was in stable condition. Mr. Davis was transported to the DTDO (detectives' office downtown).
When Officers arrived at the complainants residence they made contact with Mr. John Easby-Smith (W/M 12-24-56), who advised that he was upstairs in his bedroom when he heard something downstairs. Mr. Smith advised that he retrieved his .45 Cal handgun from his bedside table and went downstairs and found 3 B/M’s inside his residence. Mr. Smith then fired two to three rounds at the suspects striking one of the robbers. One of the suspects then fired a shot at Mr. Smith as the suspects ran out the garage door. No one in the residence was injured.
The wooded area south of Denny Road was searched for the suspect that fled with negative results and the items thrown out of the vehicle were recovered.
Mr. Davis was charged with one (1) count of Criminal attempt to Commit Capital Murder, one (1) count Aggravated Robbery, one count (1) Aggravated Burglary, one count (1) of Theft of Property and one count (1) of Obstructing.
Charges are pending against Mr. Keaton.
