Another letter today on the LR School District budget situation and it is, I think, significant. Board president Dianne Curry lists her ideas on spending cuts. At the very top:
1. We should begin by cutting administrative costs. Furthermore, I feel that we need to align salaries with the standards for this county, and other districts of similar size.
2. Recently, new positions had been added. Some were approved by the board and some designated by administration. These additions may need to be reduced to meet the $10 million cut necessary for the district to operate. I recommend these positions be reviewed and a determination be made regarding whether to cut positions that do not directly impact student achievement.
And there's this:
7. Central Office and IRC reductions should be examined. We should not consider any cuts for counselors, teachers, or other front line personnel until all possible administrative cuts have been exhausted.
I believe the Board political dynamic might not be so predictable as some have assumed.
