The Southern Political Report assesses the condition of the Arkansas Republican Party. Not so hot, particularly compared to the day when the governor, lieutenant governor, one U.S. senator and two congressmen were Republicans.
But the article says the party will field candidates for governor and U.S. Senate in 2010. Realistic Republicans think Gov. Mike Beebe will be all but impossible to beat, barring some slipup. But they continue to harbor the belief that U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln is vulnerable, a belief built mostly on the hope she'll cast a vote for organized labor that can be used as a wedge. The article lists several potential contenders mentioned here and elsewhere previously, including banker French Hill of Little Rock, who I understand has a Washington trip planned to further explore a Senate run.
