Brummett recounts the recent press meeting with legislative leaders and Gov. Mike Beebe. He found a governor characterizing the new lottery as relatively small potatoes, even though legislators are investing a great deal of importance in it. It's not Beebe's baby, after all. I still think the governor's seeming preference for our current scholarship system, augmented with lottery proceeds, is unjustified by current results -- unclaimed money and the subsidization of scholarship students through uncommonly high tuition rates for average students. More money should go to more students.
