Sen. Lincoln's opponent

John Brummett did the old-fashioned thing. He called up outgoing Farm Bureau president Stanley Reed and asked him about rumors of his interest in running for U.S. Senate. The RepubliBaptist, a former UA Board member, issues a near (though not complete) categorical denial that he'd run against Blanche Lincoln.

But what about an interest in the UA presidency, a desire mentioned here previously? What about seeking the Senate should Lincoln be named Ag secretary (she's downplaying this talk, apparently)? No denials on those, categorical or otherwise.

Speaking of U.S. Senate: Has it occurred to anyone that Tim Griffin, a junior hatchetman to Karl Rove, just might be doing an employer's work in floating his name as a Republican contender against Lincoln in 2012? He's linking his interest to her potential vote on union card-check legislation. Do you think an anti-union lobby might pay someone to work, in whatever way necessary, to encourage Lincoln to vote anti-union? Do you think the threat of a political opponent based solely on that vote might encourage Lincoln one way or the other? Just idly speculating here.
