Brummett writes that U.S. automakers must be saved. But he also portrays the failure of a bailout this week as equally the product of a split between unions and anti-union politicians that suggests an impartial mediation. Equating the position of the union, which has given up tons of ground in recent years and this week, and virulent anti-union, foreign-company protecting Southern congressmen, strikes me as as a little simplistic and too even-handed.
