Bauer, the Religious Righter, fires back at Mike Huckabee’s criticism of Bauer for failing to get behind his presidential bid. He says he wanted Huckabee to run for U.S. Senate, even though earlier saying:

Huckabee said that during a private meeting we had, “it was like playing whack-a-mole at the arcade — whatever issue I addressed, another one surfaced as the ‘problem’ that made my candidacy unacceptable.”

In fact, talking with Huckabee was like playing whack-a-mole, because he had a number of issues that posed problems.  It wasn’t just that he didn’t get it on foreign policy.  His record on taxes and spending, illegal immigration, his apparent backing of Al Gore’s carbon cap and trade scheme, support for voting rights for Washington, D.C., and cozying up to unions like the NEA all worried me.  Huckabee can call it whack-a-mole.  But for me there were just too many items where he wasn’t sufficiently conservative coupled with a lack of attention and experience on foreign affairs.

ALSO: Add the Weekly Standard to Republican organs unimpressed by Huck’s get-even with Mitt Romney and his mewling that the media catapulted Sarah Palin ahead of him in the 2012 sweepstakes.

Wow, this guy’s so petty, you could put him in the 43 car and call him the King. Huckabee’s very good performance during his primary “bloodying,” such that it was, has served his profile and career fairly well. Less whining would serve him even better.

AND, here’s a libertarian frosted at The Huckster for a laundry list of sins, including:

Huckabee makes little distinction between religion and politics: It’s not that he’s religious.  It’s that Mike Huckabee appears to be incapable of drawing a meaningful distinction between religion and politics.  For instance, in 1997, Governor Huckabee held up a disaster relief bill for weeks because he objected to its description of floods and tornados as “an act of God”.   He explained his position on another bill by saying “I drink a different kind of Jesus juice.”  He has asserted a Christian duty to support other policies.  The Right desperately needs to remember that where the government intrudes, church recedes.

AND IF YOU WANT ONE OF HIS NEW BOOKS: He’ll be coming soon to Books-A-Million stores in Fort Smith and Texarkana, but not the one in North Little Rock, according to this list. Not as “red” as the cities on this list, perhaps? UPDATE: A Huckabee fan says LR admirers need not worry. He’ll be at Barnes and Noble in WLR from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 26. Will they love him in LR like they did in Iowa?
