John Brummett beholds the "advancement" of the news business. Like on-line polls in which readers order up story coverage.
(Hey, we do that occasionally, in our Ask the Blog feature.)
The former one-dimensional writers at the Times also carry Flip cameras around, nearly idiot-proof video cameras, and digital still cameras for near-instant posting of news photos.
We also Blog. I know. That's so 2004, to semi-quote Brum, the year we started.
I remember when I thought a fax machine was something special. "Internet search engines?" Get outtahere. What's a Google?
We ride the tide at the Times. We're not early adopters, in part because we can't afford the high-tech until it's been replicated in cost-efficient form. Brummett says he'll be joining a vanload of football fans to see the Hogs in Starkville this Saturday. He expects most to be on their Blackberries and cellphones nonstop.
Someday, I might get a cellphone. But not yet.
