I'm turning it over to you.
If any Blog readers drop in on the Pulaski County School Board meeting this evening, I'd appreciate a report. UPDATE: Readers chimed in.
FROM ONE READER:
The PCSSD Board Meeting was a knock-down battle. New Maumelle board member Tim Clark pressed district staff for who knew what when about the Crystal Hill school roof problem, but they all clammed up and Supt. James Sharpe covered for them and took on Clark and others. It went on for an hour before a 30-minute executive session where raised voices could be heard in the room they left.(Nothing decided)
Clark and Vasquez also pressed Sharpe on the Sherwood Clinton School roof issue. Sharpe said Clinton wasn't anywhere near as bad as Crystal Hill. Several board members questioned that.
AND FROM ANOTHER
I attended the meeting tonight but left when they went into executive session to discuss the personnel issue.
Apparently there were three reports done, the last one was received a month before the district took action this week. There was some pointed discussion between Superintendent Sharpe and Board members Tim Clark and Mr. Vasquez. Gwen Williams, who said she had been on the board for 12 years, says she has never seen any of the reports and also expressed concern. Sharpe stated that he had been told to conduct an investigation of this at the last board meeting and had not yet completed that investigation.
Cheers seemed to support Sharpe, especially when he repeatedly attempted to refocus attention on getting the children relocated and not placing blame, but there was also applause for Ms. Williams.
Clinton Elementary was also discussed as it was built around the same time as Crystal Hill. There are problems there too, but it seems that they don't require immediate attention.
A fellow in the business office who was on vacation this week seemed to be the point man for at least the most recent engineer's report.
My comment: Well-timed vacation.
