No action at the LR Planning Commission today on the application for zoning approval for a seven-story Aloft Hotel in the River Market District. The matter was deferred until the Dec. 18 meeting.
The deferral was requested by the hotel developer. Only six planning commissioners were present when the matter was deferred. All six would have been required to pass the proposal. That's a high hurdle.
New wrinkle: Work is reportedly underway to find a home for the Aloft Hotel in the Argenta neighborhood in downtown North Little Rock. There'd be a touch of irony if the Stephens financial interests' opposition killed a $20 million investment in Little Rock, but it shifted across the river to some of the fine property available within a baseball's throw of Dickey-Stephens Park.
