Suspect in Pressly case? UPDATE

I note the Democrat-Gazette this morning chose not to pick up on reports yesterday that suggested the LRPD might have information pointing to a specific person in the beating death a week ago of KATV's morning anchor Anne Pressly.

An educated guess: The police have DNA evidence and they are attempting to match it with someone who's been in the criminal system before.

UPDATE: We finally got in touch with Sgt. Cassandra Davis of LRPD to follow up on quotes attributed to her in the linked article. (They apparently have drawn quite a bit of attention around the country.) She said she was misunderstood. Police are seeking a suspect, of course. Somebody committed the crime, after all. "I am only saying we haven't identified the person responsible," she said. "I'm not saying we have a particular person of interest." Beyond that, no developments to report today.

So then. I asked two more questions that have been raised repeatedly in talk about the case:

1) Do the police have DNA evidence? "I am not at liberty to comment on evidence."

2) Are the police investigating the crime as a rape case as well as a homicide? "I am not able to comment whether we are investigating it as a rape."

ALSO: KATV has created a webpage on which it is compiling all its written and video coverage of the case.

A memorial service for Pressly has been set for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Anglican Church on Kanis Road.
