Park Plaza announces a Sephora store will open in the mall in the spring. But ... Will anybody still be buying cosmetics come spring, given the continuing financial disaster? Dow heads today to the 7,000 range. Speaking of cosmetics and Park Plaza, Dillard's is trading at $3.50 per share.

Secretary of State Charlie Daniels says more than 100,000 ballots have already been cast in advance of Nov. 4. In 2004, 1,054,945 voted overall (a 63 percent turnout)

It was another busy night on the police beat. Go to the jump for robbery reports and the case of the "combative" 71-year-old who celebrated her birthday by allegedly trying to run down a skateboarding 12-year-old Hillcrest neighbor.

LRPD REPORTS

2008- 123825- AGGRAVATED ASSAULT- VEHICLE

SUSPECT – CHRISTINE DETTBARN-PALADE, W/F, 10-23-37, 341 CRYSTAL

                     COURT

VICTIM – WALTER WRIGHT, W/M, 08-23-96, 340 CRYSTAL COURT

INCIDENT DATE/TIME – 10-23-08, 1719 HOURS

INCIDENT LOCATION – 345 CRYSTAL COURT

ARREST DATE/TIME – 10-23-08, 1800 HOURS

ARREST LOCATION – 2601 KAVANAUGH

On this date, officers responded to a hit and run accident at 345 Crystal Court at approximately 1719 hours.  Officers made contact with Taylor Wright, who is the mother of Walter Wright.  Ms. Wright told officers that her neighbor, Christine Dettbarn-Palade, attempted to run over her son, Walter Wright, in her 1999 Toyota Solara.  Walter Wright told officers he was on his skateboard when Ms. Dettbarn-Palade attempted to run him over.  He stated that he jumped out of the way by jumping onto a brick wall.  Wright said Ms. Dettbarn then attempted to hit his legs with her car door.  Wright said he attempted to run eastbound on Crystal Court toward home and Ms. Dettbarn-Palade put her vehicle in reverse and attempted to run over him a second time.  Wright said while driving in reverse, Ms. Dettbarn-Palade struck a parked 2001 Nissan Extera and then drove off.  A witness, Ian Oman, also saw this incident and gave the same statement to officers.  Mr. Dettbarn-Palade told police his wife most likely went to Ferneaux’s restaurant on Kavanaugh.  Officers located Ms. Dettbarn-Palade at this location and she was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Downtown Detective Division.  Ms. Dettbarn-Palade was too combative to be interviewed and was charged with Aggravated Assault with a vehicle and Felony Criminal Mischief and transported to Pulaski County Jail.  Mr. Wright and his mother came to the detective division along with the witness Ian Oman and his father to give statements.

 

2008- 123965- AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

SUSPECT – UNKNOWN B/M, 20- 25 YOA

VICTIM – SHELL SUPER STOP, 11401 CANTRELL

INCIDENT DATE/ TIME – 10-24-08, 0215 HOURS

INCIDENT LOCATION – 11401 CANTRELL

ARREST DATE/TIME – N/A

ARREST LOCATION – N/A

On 10-14-08, at approximately 0215 hours, the attendant at the Shell Super Stop was cleaning up the parking lot.  He observed a black male wearing a leather jacket and blue jeans walking towards the store.  The attendant, Rodney Hulsey, went into the store and observed the male subject go into the bathroom then come out and go to the counter. The male was going to buy a Black and Mild, but did not have enough money.  He then bought a less expensive cigar and a piece of candy.  The attendant then advised when he opened the cash drawer, the male told him that he had a gun in his pocket and he wanted all the money.  The subject then reached over and took the money and told the attendant to lie on the floor for 10 minutes.

After the male was gone Mr. Hulsey called the police.  There was no crime scene to be printed.  The owner will provide a CD of the robbery as soon it can be downloaded.

 

 

2008- 123895- AGGRAVATED ROBBERY/THEFT OF PROPERTY/AGGRAVATED

                        ASSAULT/THEFT BY RECEIVING

SUSPECT – LAVORIS MCGHEE, B/M, 12-27-86, 216. E. 15TH NLR

VICTIM – LARRY SHAW, W/M, 07-20-66, 722 SHERMAN

INCIDENT DATE/TIME – 10-23-08, 2030 HOURS

INCIDENT LOCATION – 9TH AND I-30 SHELL GAS STATION

ARREST DATE/TIME – 10-23-08, 2050 HOURS

ARREST LOCATION –MAIN AND PERSHING, NLR

On 10-23-08, officers responded to Main and Pershing in reference to a robbery in Little Rock at 9th and I-30.  Officers made contact with Larry Shaw who advised officers that he went to the Shell Superstop to buy toilet paper. He advised he went outside and was approached by an unknown male who asked him if he wanted to buy some “Boot Leg DVD’s”.  He told the subject that he did.  The subject told him to meet him on the road that runs next to McArthur Park because he did not want to do it on the parking lot.  He met the subject and got into his vehicle at which time the subject pulled a large silver semi-automatic handgun and robbed him.  He stated that he gave the subject four $100.00 bills and the subject let him out of the vehicle without further incident.  He said that he went back to his vehicle and followed the subject as he left the area.  He said that he tried to “Pit” the subject’s vehicle by hitting it with his vehicle in front of the Fire Department on 9th Street.  He chased the subject all the way to North Little Rock where he exited I-30 at 15th Street.  He said as he followed the subject he fired a shot at him out the driver’s side window.  He said that they turned on Main Street in North Little Rock and there were two North Little Rock Police Department officers on a traffic stop.  He said that as they passed the officers, he stopped and told them that the subject had shot at him.  North Little Rock Police Department officers were able to stop both he and the suspect on the parking lot of the Exxon gas station in North Little Rock.

North Little Rock Police Department officers recovered four $100.00 bills from the suspect and found a silver 9-millimeter Bryson handgun in his vehicle.  The handgun showed to be stolen out of North Little Rock.  The suspect’s vehicle was towed to the crime scene bay for processing.  McGhee was transported to the Detective Division and the victim responded also.  A recorded statement was taken from the victim and he reiterated what he had told officers.  The $400.00 was returned to the victim and a property receipt was signed.  McGhee was read his rights under Miranda and he requested his attorney.  No statement was taken.  McGhee was charged with Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Property, Theft by Receiving and Aggravated Assault.  He was transported to Pulaski County Regional Jail for processing.

Detective Ritchie went to the business and was advised that they have video around the business, however they will not be able to download it until tomorrow.  The video will be obtained at that time.
