The city of Little Rock has announced it won't enforce parking meter violations in a two-block radius around the county early voting location at in the Jeffrey Hawkins Center at Broadway and Markham. (Violations of handicapped parking and fire zones will still be ticketed.) The no-ticket boundary is Markham, Third, Center and State streets. There are some visitor parking spaces off Markham, on the west side of the building. A steady stream of voters has kep the center hopping today.
UPDATE: Election Commissioner Kent Walker said a whopping 5,000 people voted in Pulaski County today. That's about three percent of the 155,000 who voted in Pulaski in the last presidential election. Walker now thinks as many as 50,000 may vote early, which will ease strains election day considerably. Statewide, the secretary of state's office said more than 21,000 voted today, plus about 9,000 mailed absentees were sent in.
