Circuit Judge Chris Piazza today dismissed Dwayne Dobbins' lawsuit to get onto the ballot as a Democratic candidate for state representative from North Little Rock. Piazza agreed with arguments by the state and others that Dobbins had waited too long to file a challenge to the Democratic Party's refusal to certify him as its nominee. That prevented the judge, he said, from considering the merits of Dobbins' challenge of the party's decision.
Dobbins, you may recall, gave up his legislative seat in a plea bargain over a charge that he'd sexually molested a teenager. Then he filed unopposed at the last minute as a Democratic candidate this year, when party officials had expected his wife to seek the seat again. The Green Party has a candidate for the seat, Richard Carroll, and there are two write-ins.
Dobbins plans an appeal to the state Supreme Court.
