The Little Rock School Board will have an agenda meeting and work session tonight. If earlier Board correspondence is an indication, Board member Baker Kurrus may bring up his objection to a letter sent by Board President Diane Curry outlining objections to approval of further open enrollment charter schools in Pulaski County. He said the contents of the letter had not been discussed or approved by the Board before it was sent.
Kurrus in the past has made arguments similar to Curry's -- that charter schools established in Little Rock haven't served unmet needs and that they have had the effect of skimming the best students from the district. But recently he has indicated the district has lost this battle (the Walton money has assured that) and should concentrate on doing the best with the circumstances it's left with.
