KARK, Channel 4, is reporting that Jacksonville High School is on lockdown because of a possible shootout nearby.
UPDATE: KARK now reports that the suspect has barricaded himself in a house at 200 Foxwood Drive and is refusing to come out. We've heard unconfirmed reports that the standoff began when police responded to a call about a man firing bottle rockets at his neighbor. When cops arrived, the man ran into the house and began shooting at them, with police returning fire. Jacksonville PD negotiators are currently on scene, trying to talk him down.
UPDATE II: KTHV is on the scene, and says that the suspect is still taking potshots at police. Cops have told reporters that the suspect may be mentally ill. No surprise there.
UPDATE III: A Jacksonville police officer has been wounded, KARK says, as the standoff continues.\
UPDATE IV: From neighbors comes this information, not verified with Jacksonville police as yet:
The shooter was said to have been shot by a sniper and taken away in an ambulance at about 7:45 p.m. His condition is not known.
The shooter was firing at Steve Crook, 2811 Fox Glenn, who lives catercornered to the shooter. Neighbors believe the shooter's last name is Smith.
Crook -- who thought the man was firing bottle rockets initially -- took cover in his basement with his dog. His house is riddled with bullets, neighbors say. Police got him to safety out the back of the house.
