Foster vote makes ballot

KTHV reports that an initiative to ban unmarried couples from acting as foster  or adoptive parents has been approved for the Nov. 4 ballot. Though technically aimed at any unmarried couple, the measure is designed to keep gays and lesbians from adopting or fostering kids. The push for the ballot measure came in response to a 2006 Arkansas Supreme Court ruling that struck down a ban on gays and lesbians serving as foster parents.

The measure needed the verified signatures of 61,974 registered Arkansas voters to make the ballot.

NOTE: A legal contest is planned.

PS: Could someone explained how the secretary of state's office certified some 30,000 additional signatures in less than a week?
