I will say this about the shale drilling boom, particularly as it relates to Chesapeake Energy. It calls to mind the old days of locally based utilities in these parts, when the utility companies contributed richly to community organizations, bought lots of advertising and otherwise tried to maintain a positive public profile. They could afford it after all.
The remark is prompted by my belated discovery that a series of Riverfront Amphitheatre concerts -- Kenny Loggins this week -- is being sponsored by Chesapeake.
