Acorn's scandal

The scandal over embezzling from the grassroots organization ACORN by the brother of founder Wade Rathke draws attention again today in the New York Times. It reports that a wealthy man, Drummond Pike, who is a friend of Rathke, paid off the note by which the Rathke family promised to make good on the nearly $1 million in missing money, discovered in 2000. (This story is of interest here because Rathke lived for years in Little Rock, where Acorn get its start and remains a grassroots force. Also, a current Acorn leader in Little Rock, Zach Pollett, is quoted on efforts in the organization to keep the behind-the-scenes bailout quiet.)
