A blog reader asks:
Max, how about a thread on Obama's rejection today of public financing for the general election? I'm a progressive (and as of today, disaffected) Democrat who is disappointed that our nominee's actions may provide grist for the Republicans to mock Obama's "reformer" and "change" mantras--and his previous pledge to seek public financing. Opening the spigots up to unlimited spending hardly seems the right way to fix a "broken" political system that's already permeated with buckets of money.
Reader is right on at least one point. Republicans have already begun making hay out of it. But the WaPo blogger linked here gives prominence, first, to Obama's explanation. I tend to think that, for the electoral world at large, it's not a high-voltage issue.
