A long-time city planning official is quoted by a colleague as saying that the Strode Development plan to build a Target, other retail and apartments on the site of the razed University Mall has now been improved sufficiently to be approved by the Little Rock Planning Commission this coming Thursday, June 19.
The Hillcrest Neighborhood Association had earlier opposed the plan for the Park Avenue project, but it has been undergoing revisions to make it more palatable, as I reported here last week News: the next-door Briarwood Neighborhood Association gave the plan a vote of approval Thursday night. (The drawing above is taken from the shopping center website and likely is now out of date, but it gives you some idea.)
Great coverage of the Briarwood meeting here. Folks really want that Target, even if it means somewhat less of a "lifestyle" center appearance.
