Howard Kurtz has the scoop that Fox News is about to announce a one-year deal with former Ark. Gov. Mike Huckabee to provide political commentary. His item notes that it's a good way to stay in the spotlight for a presidential run in 2012 (what, McCain isn't going to win?) I guess it also suggests that Huckabee might have a good idea that he won't be on the ticket this year.
Mike Huckabee may have flamed out as a presidential candidate, but his glibness and humor did not go unnoticed.
The former Arkansas governor has signed a one-year deal as a political commentator for Fox News, where he will sound off on a variety of programs. A knowledgeable source says an announcement is expected soon.
Should Huck slip into his habit of strained humor, he won't be out of place at Fox -- home of O'Reilly, an assassination "joke" worse than Huck's own, the Obamas' "terrorist" knuckle bump and, most recently, the Obama "baby mama" smear.
Politico's Jonathan Martin says Fox is the natural home for a wannabe Republican politician.
“Governor Huckabee’s campaign experience and knowledge of politics makes him a great addition to our ongoing election coverage,” Bill Shine, Fox senior vice president of programming, said in a statement.
