Speaking of those slacker teachers

Jay P. Greene, the Waltons' hired gun in the Department of School Voucher Promotion and Teacher Union Busting at Walton U.-Fayetteville, blogs between partisan hatchet jobs. This week, he notes that end-of-course exams are given in April in Arkansas public schools, at which point, "academic work grinds to a halt." Challenged for some basis for this definitive sweeping statement, he hasn't yet offered any, nor have any of his running dogs. Keep watch.

Meanwhile, what about it teachers? Does academic work end for the year in April? Are the final six weeks a merry round of Coke parties, field trips and movies?

(Since college profs aren't required to administer nationally normed standardized tests, I presume academic work never starts in Jay P.'s classroom.)
