The Village Voice is on the Tony Alamo beat this week with a report on the World Pastor's New York followers. The Catholic-trashing evangelist is currently based in Fouke, Ark.
Hard times in New York town: Apparently the church is having trouble convincing people to take the bus to its facility in Jersey, so it's having meetings in a New York pizza parlor. Another angle is a Jersey-based, Alamo-related business that's being sued by Tempur-Pedic. The business is accused of attempting to sell donated mattresses bound for Hurricane Katrina refugees.
Things are still thriving for Alamo down here as far as I can tell. My car got plastered with literature at the airport just two weeks ago.
