Remember David Koon's article about the use of physical punishment -- walking up and down steps -- at Shirley Elementary? It energized national opponents of corporal punishment.
Now a reader supplies a copy of a note said to have been distributed to parents in Shirley. No more step-walking for sixth graders. It is said to no longer be effective, though I'd bet attention to the practice might have contributed to the changeover. Now the punishment will be the much more sensible method of denial of privileges. Such as a field trip to Magic Springs.
