Good grade on school spending

The Office of Education Policy at the University of Arkansas has assessed state school spending in the aftermath of the Lakeview decision and concludes that the legislature "dramatically enhanced the adequacy of resources for schools and the equity by which they were distributed."

Read more here. But don't overlook this cautionary word:

Athletic spending remains an area of concern. Data indicate small school districts spend more per pupil for athletics than do districts with higher enrollments, districts serving more low-income students spend less per pupil for athletics than do districts serving fewer low-income students, and districts serving higher percentages of minority students spend less per pupil for athletics than do districts with lower percentages.

Yes. And it's becoming clearer and clearer that, in those districts where voters simply will not approve tax increases for required facilities, administrators are going to have to lower the hammer and shut down football to bring voters around. Will they?
