The French parliament is halfway there on passing legislation to prohibit advertisers, magazines, websites, etc. from encouraging extreme thinness. This is a reaction to the anorexia-related death of an acutely underweight fashion model. The French action follows Spain’s move to ban stick-thin runway models with extremely low weight-to-height ratios.
Conceptually, of course, it’s not a long way from legislation like this to legislation that discourages unhealthy activities on the other end of the body scale. Beer drinking, ice cream eating and snack foods gorging come to mind.
