Hard on the heels of the release of his CD “Exodus,” Arkansas Symphony Orchestra director David Itkin has announced the 2009-2010 season with the ASO will be his last. Itkin is going to the University of North Texas College of Music at Denton, where he will teach conducting starting in the fall.
Itkin said the opportunity to be “at the helm of an orchestral conducting department in a school like this doesn’t come around often.” The school approached him a little less than a year ago, Itkin said. He’ll continue to be music director of the Las Vegas and Abilene philharmonic orchestras, whose seasons are more abbreviated than Little Rock’s.

The orchestra will form a committee to draw up a transition plan.
