The results of a survey of parents conducted by UALR for the Little Rock School District are in. No surprises, but some fairly discouraging numbers: Of 129 parents of students in the 4th and 5th grades at Terry and Fulbright elementaries, more than a third said they’re planning to take their kids out of the LRSD for middle school. The surveyers apparently didn’t ask their reasons — it would have been interesting, given the recent School Board debate over whether to include middle school grades in a planned new WLR school, to see how many would have said they’d stay in the district if there was a middle school closer to where they live.
The study also included a survey of private-school parents who live in West Little Rock, and asked their reasons for keeping their kids out of the public schools. Just about everybody took hits on that question — teachers, principals, other students, the school board, and even the federal government for kicking God out of the classroom.
