The real dropout rate

From tomorrow's NY Times:

The real high school dropout rate is almost certainly higher across the country than reported to the feds for NCLB purposes. Arkansas isn't mentioned specifically, but it's hard to imagine the same situation isn't true here. Anecdotally, it stands to reason. Think how many teen crimes you read about in which those involved have long been disassociated with any high school. Have they been tracked on a state scoresheet? Or just forgotten? If they were carefully tracked, how many could be made to continue to attend class? Tough problems.
