Outrage of the week

I can't add much but sputter to the continuing news of special treatment given the felonious thief Thomas Coughlin, the former Wal-Mart executive who was given "house arrest" on his palatial family estate by a solicitous federal judge for his crime of stealing from his employer. The probation officer in Fort Smith has continued the special treatment for the crook, allowing him to attend a big hunters' fund-raising swillathon as "community service." This Morning News account quotes even a Coughlin supporter as saying that the definition of a party as community service doesn't pass the smell test. If bidding on items at a hunters' charity event amounts to community service, Coughlin need only get busy on eBay to finish the terms of his onerous punishment.

Another chapter in that giant book: "Money Talks."
