Voters beat a millage increase
to build badly needed new schools
for the booming district. I can't help myself from noting that this is a region that -- in addition to being resolutely anti-tax -- is full of public leaders who want to give away school millages to build shopping centers and hotels. You could argue that this attitude gives the appearance the schools have money to burn. Others might argue that the football palace Bentonville built -- complete with jumbotron and a near-$100,000 coach -- sends a certain message, too.
