Brummett today says he’d have spiked the NY Times’ McCain story. My opinion? I’d have tossed the innuendo and focused on what several outlets have now done better — written about McCain’s heavy reliance on lobbyists within his campaign (some working on private matters from his campaign vehicles) and his very cozy relationships in his Senate career, despite his independent maverick reputation. And McCain’s truthfulness is worth a look, too.

UPDATE: As Carrick noted last night, the Times’ “public editor” has criticized the newspaper’s story.
