It being G. Washington’s Birthday (observed) and all, news seems slow. So here’s some presidential highlights:

I HOPE HE DOES: John McCain to build his campaign on the theme that the Democrats were wrong about the war in Iraq.

BATTLIN’ BILL: His patience wears thin with a group of anti-abortion protesters. I know the feeling. Been down that road with a gun zany this weekend.

WATERMELON, WATERMELON, WATERMELON RIND: G.H.W. Bush endorses McCain and encourages The Huckster to take a look at the scoreboard and see who’s behind.

SOUND FAMILIAR?: Turns out Barack Obama has been channeling another politician with some of his inspiring speechmaking. This sort of thing killed Joe Biden once upon a time. But under Obama Rules, only a shrew would make a fuss about such a thing, particularly if it’s OK with the guy Obama has been lifting from. That said, I think the Clinton campaign is wasting its time making an issue of this. It’s not likely to turn the trend lines in Wisconsin.
