Hillary Clinton's campaign has announced that Little Rock will be part of a nationally televised "town hall" event Monday night. Details on the jump. A city of Little Rock neighborhood center will be the site. I happen to know efforts were made to use Central High School for this event, but the School Board raised questions about it last week on account of questions about whether all campaigns would have equal access and a question about public access. According to School District e-mails, the district's understanding was that attendance at the event was by invitation only, thus not open to the public. Ultimately, the district was informed a different location had been obtained.

Speaking of the Clinton campaign: Lt. Gov. Bill Halter has endorsed her.

Hillary Clinton’s Arkansas campaign today announced that campaign co-chair, Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, will moderate the campaign’s Little Rock “Voice Across America” Town Hall event, which will take place at the  Willy Hinton Center  ( 3805 W. 12th St. ) this Monday, February 4, 2008. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. CST and the national town hall featuring Hillary will begin at 8:00 p.m. CST.

“Our role in helping decide the Democratic nominee for President has never been more apparent. This historic event connects Arkansas voters with Hillary, giving them a chance to say ask her important questions in the final hours of the campaign,” said McDaniel. “Hillary Clinton’s campaign has always been about talking directly to people about the issues that matter to them. When Hillary is president, the American people will finally have a voice again.”

Hillary will answer Americans' questions in an unprecedented national town hall, which will broadcast live on Hallmark Channel and be streamed online at HillaryClinton.com at 8:00 p.m. CST. Hillary will anchor the town hall in New York , while President Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, and national and local surrogates will serve as hosts at events in the other states.

Voters will be able to participate by attending the Little Rock event or one of the other 21 satellite simulcast events across the country, watching it live on television, or by viewing a real-time stream of the event at hillaryclinton.com.

Three-time Emmy award winner and veteran journalist Carole Simpson will join Hillary at the anchor event in New York to serve as the national moderator of the “Voices Across America: A National Town Hall.”

“It is incredible that such amazing people across the country are going to be a part of this historic dialogue, and I am looking forward to continuing by conversation with the country about the urgent challenges we face the big solutions I have proposed to tackle them,” said Clinton. 

Simpson was the longtime weekend anchor of ABC World News Tonight.  She joined ABC News in 1982 and served as weekend anchor for 15 years, from 1988 to 2003. During the 1992 presidential campaign, she was moderator of the historic second presidential debate, the first to follow a town-hall format and the first to be moderated by a woman and an African-American. Simpson also was a reporter on the critically acclaimed documentary, Black in White America. For the past four years she wrote two columns for the ABC website and served as an ambassador to high schools for ABC, reaching more than 5,000 students in two years.
