The D-G's NW edition covered a conference up in Fayetteville yesterday on the environmental impact -- significant -- of exploring the Fayetteville shale. Chemical pollution and massive water use are among the issues, along with road damage and lesser concerns.

This is but one more reason why we must raise the gas severance tax and why directing all the money to highways might not be the perfect idea. How about beefing up Arkansas's laughably weak environmental agency? But you know the answer to that one.
And don't you love reading in the morning D-G that the legislature will be ready to approve a severance tax when they are informed what the industry will accept? That just about says it all for the Arkansas legislature.
