A news conference is scheduled in Marion this morning at which Prosecutor H.G. Foster of Conway will release the findings of his review of the June 22 fatal shooting of 12-year-old DeAuntae Farrow by West Memphis police officer Erik Sammis. The child was shot on a dark parking lot after officers on a stakeout told him to stop. They said he had a toy gun that looked like a real weapon from a distance. A toy gun was found by his body. Federal officials previously had concluded the boy's rights weren't violated when he was shot.
UPDATE: We expect the full file later in the day -- it will include videos of witnesses, including relatives of the dead child -- but it finds the officer's actions were justified under the circumstances. A relative said the child was carrying a toy gun, which, from a distance at night, looked very much like a real weapon, the report found.
