The Capital Hotel reopened today after a refurbishing that probably cost more than the $24 million owner Warren Stephens estimated. Brian Chilson was on hand with his camera. Above is Ashley’s, the premier restaurant, now smaller — to make room for a larger kitchen — and with a new menu that features Southern cuisine. Below, the bar and grill, still familiar (and now, blissfully, smoke free). The corner table is reserved in perpetuity for the late Jack Stephens, backgammon board ready for play. The renovation ate up 26 rooms — some to make way for a ballroom and meeting areas, some combined to make larger rooms. Following are photos of a new three-room deluxe suite with more square footage than many a Hillcrest bungalow. It’ll rent for about $760 a night.
