Brummett lauds the DREAM legislation, which failed to overcome a Senate filibuster, to give legal status to children of illegal immigrants who go to college or join the military. You'll remember that Sen. Blanche Lincoln supported the measure; Sen. Mark Pryor opposed it.
This reminds me again of the diverse state lobby group that will be announced Monday in Springdale and Little Rock to oppose punitive anti-immigrant measures. Almost hourly, people are volunteering to join the effort. Friday afternoon, a former Republican legislator sent me an e-mail asking how to get involved. Perhaps such efforts will stiffen the backbone of politicians like Mark Pryor who has to believe that trading provisional citizenship to an immigrant willing to lay down his or her life for an adopted country is a good trade.
