A reminder that burglar alarms, even those with auxiliary power, are not sure protection against the hard-working criminal sector in LR.
I have a report of a home in Hillcrest (a president street) burglarized yesterday, this one for the second time in six weeks. Robbers turned off power and entered through a window while the home owner was at work. His alarm system, with backup power, went off. Police responded. They found no signs of forced entry and moved on. When the home owner got home about 9:30 p.m. yesterday, he found he'd been robbed.
Coincidentally, I'm immersed in another fine HBO series, "Five Days," a British crime thriller. It turns, in part, on the ubiquity of closed circuit TV cameras in England. A camera on my street captured a picture of the gun-toting robber recently arrested for multiple Hillcrest area crimes. Soon, they'll be everywhere. I hate it. But I'm beginning to hate the feeling of helplessness more.
