On the anti-gay-adoption initiative. This one is simple. The proposal from the farthest right of the Religious Right is wrong. It's unnecessary. It will make it harder to find homes for kids who need them. It's motivated by dislike --or choose your stronger word -- of homosexuals. And it's the best angle the Dobson folks have this year to whip up gay hatred in the cause of conservative Republican candidates.
Gov. Mike Beebe isn't about to say any of those things. He wants his liberal supporters -- his backers include gay people -- to be ever so grateful for some minor, muted words of halfway objection. For a man with so much power, he certainly is a wimp. If only the Poultry Federation would say it was OK to show some courage on this issue.
